From “understanding” to “doing.” We certify practical skills that work on the shop floor.
Digital transformation (DX) in manufacturing has now reached the stage of introducing robots and AI. Yet the sensors that capture data at the very starting point are, in reality, still neither selected nor used optimally. There are still few places to learn sensor principles, errors and selection across the board, and so DX keeps being built on measurements with uncertain foundations. The Practical Sensor Certification Association was established to provide a yardstick for this gap.
Our role is to systematically organize the practical sensor knowledge that is useful on the shop floor into the Official Handbook and to make it objectively assessable through a certification. The certification consists of two levels, the Basic Level (Sensor Engineer Certification) and the Advanced Level (Sensor Specialist Certification), so that candidates can prove their skills step by step according to their proficiency.

- 01 Engineers currently active on the front lines of manufacturing
- 02 Sales staff at FA equipment trading companies and distributors, and at machine and equipment manufacturers
- 03 People aiming to start a career in the FA industry or in manufacturing
Sensor knowledge for everyone involved in manufacturing
From a neutral standpoint not tied to any particular manufacturer, we deliver systematic knowledge of sensor principles, selection and practice. We believe that the skills of each person who learns will support the future of manufacturing.
We want people to remain at the heart of manufacturing
As automation advances, more and more work will be handled by robots and AI. Even so, it is people who decide what to measure and how, and who judge what the numbers mean. We want engineers who understand sensors and can use them to stay at the center of those decisions. The Practical Sensor Certification is a qualification that lays the foundation for this.
Turning knowledge into practical skill
We create exams and learning materials that help you understand how sensors work and how errors arise, so that you can choose and make full use of sensors under your own conditions.
From a neutral standpoint
We do not promote any particular manufacturer’s products. We write exam questions and learning materials with the understanding of candidates and the people on the shop floor as our first priority.
Scattered knowledge, refined into a coherent system
We gather knowledge that has been scattered across manufacturers and models, and organize only what is truly needed for decisions on the shop floor systematically in the Official Handbook (two volumes: Basic Level and Advanced Level).
Make learning about sensors more accessible
We put into words the know-how for using sensors that people have built up through experience on the shop floor, and turn it into learning materials and exams you can learn from with the sensor in front of you.
Content that helps on today’s shop floor
We follow industry trends and new sensor technologies and keep reviewing the exam scope and learning materials, so that the certification remains something people working today can use right away.
A certification that works in practice and becomes a source of pride
Certification is not the end. We aim for a certification whose learning helps on the shop floor the very next day, earns recognition from those around you, and becomes a source of pride for you.

Twenty years working with sensors and measuring instruments. In manufacturing and R&D sites in Japan and abroad, across industries such as automotive, electronic components, semiconductors, medical, aerospace and railways, I have worked on challenges in sensing and measurement.
For the first 12 years, in corporate sales, I came to know the sites of more than 1,000 companies and over 10,000 engineers in total, proposing solutions with sensors and measuring instruments. For the next 8 years, as a technical sales promotion specialist, I was responsible for solving difficult technical challenges. From a technical standpoint, I was also involved in sales strategy, new product launches, large projects and complaint handling, training sales staff, and managing a technical team.
On the factory floor and at headquarters, in sales and in engineering. Moving between these roles and seeing so many sites, I came to realize how much the knowledge to choose and use sensors well supports quality and productivity in manufacturing. I want everyone to be able to learn that knowledge systematically, and I want to create a common yardstick for showing the skills they have gained. That is where the Association began.
